Summary:

The Body Shop Technician is responsible for making repairs to damaged body parts and bodies of vehicles within manufacturer and industry established quality and time standards.  Primary objectives include ensuring customer satisfaction and retention, assuring vehicles are fixed first the first visit and maintaining good employee relationships.


Duties and responsibilities:

 

The Body Shop Technician is accountable for performing the duties and responsibilities described below.  The list, however, is not necessarily an exhaustive description of the duties and responsibilities associated with the job.  The Body Shop Technician also performs other duties and responsibilities as needed.

Managing Complexity

§  Prioritizes work to meet demands and customer needs; plans ahead to complete work in allotted time frames.

§  Makes decisions and ask questions, when necessary, regarding repair options.

§  Notifies management of any difficulties or problems with repair orders.

§  Completes repair orders within specified time frame, cost estimate and manufacturer standards.

§  Takes necessary steps to minimize time spent waiting for parts, add-on or authorizations, etc.

§  Coordinates with parts counterperson to ensure parts are available to complete repair in time allotted.

Utilizing Fundamental Skills

§  Reviews and evaluates service write-up to determine if additional information is necessary and what type of diagnosis is needed

§  Uses computer systems used to operate the Body Shop Department.

§  Understands and uses new systems or processes implemented by DaimlerChrysler or the dealership.

§  Complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as safety requirements, hazardous waste disposal, OSHA, Right-to-Know, etc.

§  Properly disposes of used parts and returns unused parts to the counterperson.

Producing Quality Results

§  Establishes and maintains good working relationships with customers to encourage repeat and referral business.

§  Ensures that customer complaints are handled tactfully, promptly, with genuine concern, and according to dealership's guidelines.

§  Ensures that the work areas and customer waiting area are kept clean.

§  Takes the initiative to exceed customer satisfaction, even if it requires overcoming obstacles.

§  Departs from traditional ways of doing things to ensure customer satisfaction while complying with company policies.

§  Conducts periodic inspections of completed jobs for safety, thoroughness and quality.

§  Collects all necessary information before requesting additional parts.

Communicating With and Valuing Others

§  Strives for harmony and teamwork within the department and other departments.

§  Communicates verbally and non-verbally clearly, concisely and with enthusiasm in one-on-one and group interactions.

§  Listens actively to understand others completely.

§  Conducts weekly meetings with employees to discuss issues, concerns and departmental goals.

Managing Demanding Situations

§  Resolves all disputes and difficulties with professionalism and composure.

§  Performs multiple tasks simultaneously in order to meet and exceed deadlines and expectations.

§  Modifies and makes the necessary changes to policies and procedures in order to adapt to changes.

Applying Business and Technical Knowledge

§  Maintains current industry information available for Body Shop Department.

§  Stays up-to-date on the latest technical services through training, vendors, etc.

§  Keeps up-to-date on all industry information.

§  Uses manuals including diagrams as necessary to complete repairs.


Education and Experience requirements:

The education and experience requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required to perform the primary duties and responsibilities successfully.

Education

§  High School degree or equivalent preferred

§  Other certifications or licenses as required by state law

§  Valid driver's license

§  Certification preferred

Experience

§  Three years experience in an auto repair facility required; more than five years preferred
