Ring, ring. Ring, ring. The phone buzzed, waiting for Bradley Evans to pick up. Two more rings, and then connection, someone answered with a professional greeting. This month, Bradley is celebrating his fifth year with O’Daniel CDJR, and although he is a busy man, he was still happy to share about his time with the automotive group.
With a work history spanning fifteen or so odd years, Bradley found himself with an opportunity at O’Daniel's after a recommendation from one of his college instructors. Upon graduating from Ivy Tech he applied, and in a short amount of time he was able to prove his qualifications and merits. Accepting the new job offer, he was happy to get rid of his previous one hour commute.
As a service mechanic Bradley makes sure all cars that come through his shop leave better than they came in, jokingly calling himself “the eraser,” he confidently tells me he can make most problems go away. After asking him about any challenging cases he had to work on, he recalls a poor Hybrid Chrysler Aspen that ended up being crushed. After going through three previous service stations, the Aspen came through to “the eraser.” Once he got his hands on it, he tried what he could but evaluated that the fix was going to cost upwards of $12,000; and in those cases, he tells me, it’s company policy to get the vehicle recycled.
When asked about the changes throughout his tenure at O’Daniel’s, he answered with an audible grin, “everybody’s older” — getting a chuckle out of this writer. With all jokes aside he indicates that the big rise of social media and the web in recent years has put information at everybody’s fingertips, and that often times there can be fabricated information posted that casts a negative light on the industry. One should always consume media with a grain of salt.
As our conversation began to come to a close, Bradley wanted to say thanks to his wife for always supporting him and being a great motivator in his life.
Congratulations on five year’s with O’Daniel’s Bradley, and to many more!
