To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Jeep brand, the company decided to delve into its past by recreating a wartime Jeep.
Chuck Padden, Complex Manager at the Toledo Assembly Complex stated, “75 years ago, the United States Government gave Willy’s-Overland a purchase order for 18,000 vehicles for 749 dollars apiece. 18 weeks later, an icon was born.”
Mark Allen, Head of Jeep Design, described how similar the anniversary model is to the original 1941 version, even noting that overall, much needed to be changed from the newer model. “We took a Wrangler and did a few mods to it. It feels so good to do that. Nobody else can do that.” Allen later added, “Just to prove a point, we are still running the same theme 75 years later on a Wrangler is a pretty special thing.”
Some of the modifications done to the newer Jeep design to bring back the original look included; taking off the roll bar, painting it in a similar style to the 1941 model, and giving the vehicle military style tires.
With the completion of the special anniversary edition, Allen stated that the company is keeping the 75th anniversary model. “It belongs to us, but we’re going to share it with the world.”
