What's New
on the Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited JL?
Exterior:
one of the bigger exterior giveaways is the updated grille. The JL's grille has
a slight kink, compared to the relatively flat JK grille. This isn't just an
aesthetic change; it makes the model more efficient. You'll also notice vents
behind the front fenders that reduce road noise and keep the engine cool.
Some of our
favorite exterior updates lie in the new methods for taking off the top. With
the hardtop version you can remove panels, while still maintaining a bit of
overhead and side protection. There's also a convertible soft top and a high-end
power top. These options are faster and easier than the previous generation's,
so it won't take long to feel the wind in your face as your cruise around
Auburn.
Â
Engines
& Performance: we love the expanded engine lineup. There is even
a rumored plug-in electric version for 2020. It might not be a fit for
off-roaders, but for those who commute between New Haven and Huntington it'll
be an exciting, alternative option.
- 3.6L V6
with 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft torque (carried over from the last
generation, but more efficient)
- 2.0L
turbocharged engine with 270 horsepower & 295 lb-ft torque (all-new!)
- 3.0L
EcoDiesel V6 with 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft torque (expected to arrive in
2019. Specs haven't been 100% confirmed, but these rumored numbers are pretty
solid)
The 6-speed
manual transmission was also upgraded, and there is an improved 77.2:1 crawl
ratio.

Interior:
the Wrangler's cabin updates are very apparent. The interior still has a rugged
appeal (you can still hose down the floor!), but there is an upgraded
infotainment system, new steering wheel, and more gadgets and technology to
enjoy as you drive around Columbia City.
