The key traits that pickup truck drivers look for when purchasing cars are toughness and versatility. The ability to tow a trailer, haul supplies in the truck bed, carry passengers, and do all of it when driving over rough terrain or inclement weather. RAM trucks are renowned for all of these traits, hence their motto: Guts, Glory, Ram. Ram's latest contribution to the pickup truck space comes with the release of the 2023 RAM Heavy Duty Rebel. Built on the basis of the existing RAM 2500 Power Wagon, the Rebel was conceived when customers asked for a model that was better fitted to the tasks of towing, while also preserving the Power Wagon's strength in off-roading.

Another major development in the release of the Rebel was the option of a diesel engine. In the 2023 model year, the 2500 Rebel is available with a 6.4 L V8 HEMI, or with a 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel I-6 engine. The new diesel engine is perfectly designed for the preferences of consumers; it produces 350 horsepower and a whopping 850 lb-ft of torque. This allows an eye-popping improvement in towing and payload capability. While the Power Wagon was able to tow 10,520 pounds, the Rebel has upgraded that to 16,870 pounds, more than three tons more. Additionally, the Rebel can carry up to 3140 pounds in its truck bed, almost twice the limit on the Power Wagon.

The power produced under the hood is transferred to either all four or just the rear wheels through an eight speed automatic gearbox in the gas engine or a six speed gearbox in the diesel. The availability of four wheel drive and a rear locking differential is hugely useful for off-road drivers, as it offers greater control and maneuverability when other vehicles might get stuck. Looking at what its customers wanted and what they got, it's hard to say that Ram has not succeeded in their mission to create a force of nature that is at home on and off road.
