For decades, Jeep’s Grand Cherokee has been known as one of the premier large off-road SUVs. As an ultra-capable, yet family-friendly vehicle, it has developed a reputation for providing practicality, space, and comfort while also having the ability to tackle challenging terrain.
For 2022, Autotrader has recognized the most recent Jeep Cherokee in its Best New Cars list. This list consists of 12 vehicles selected by industry experts at Autotrader, recognized for groundbreaking innovation and delivering significant value.
One notable change for the Grand Cherokee in the 2022 model year is the expansion of the lineup with the optional 4xe electric plug-in hybrid powertrain as well as the larger three-row version, the Grand Cherokee L. This change represents Jeep’s responsiveness to market needs, and their ability to build a variety of variants to cater to a wider variety of drivers.
The 4xe model provides a 25 mile all-electric range, 56 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe), and a combined range of over 470 miles. The two electric motors are combined with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Grand Cherokee L features expanded space for a more family-friendly variant of the original SUV. With a large wheelbase, it allows for comfortable seating for seven across the three rows, and class-leading legroom in the second row. Increased space all around and a larger cargo area make this SUV perfectly suited to the adventurous family.
Apart from efficiency and expanded space, all Jeep Grand Cherokee models with 4x4 (in the Limited trim and above) include Selec-Train traction management, with customizable settings including Auto, Sport, Rock, Mud, and Snow).
Finally, advanced technology features include driver drowsiness detection and alert, night vision cameras, rear entertainment screens with built-in Amazon Fire TV, and 360-degree surround view, among others.
With the new Jeep Grand Cherokee, buyers can enjoy the practicality of a family car or efficiency of a hybrid, combined with the features of a luxury car and the outdoor prowess that Jeep is known for.
