For years, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has been the largest model Jeep offers, and has gained a reputation for being the most family-friendly vehicle in the lineup. After offering several impressive performance variants and luxury trims, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has become one of the most comprehensive SUVs available on the market. For the 2021 model year, Jeep has improved a new model, the Grand Cherokee L. Larger than the existing Grand Cherokee, the L also includes a third row of seats allowing it to accommodate up to seven passengers.

Armed with additional space, the Grand Cherokee still features all of the customizability and options that buyers love about the original model. Rear wheel drive is standard, but three variants of Jeep’s powerful Quadra-Drive all-wheel drive system are offered, with the top level being especially suited to tough off-road terrain. Additionally, Jeep has kept the same 6-cylinder and 8-cylinder engines from the two-row model, which have proven themselves to be quite capable historically. Making 290 hp and 357 hp respectively, the V6 and V8 are plenty powerful for most buyers’ needs, although more performance-minded drivers may want to spring for the V8.

The Grand Cherokee L offers six different trim levels, which range from being basic but comfortable all the way to opulent. Most buyers will find that the Limited model, which includes leather seating, heated second-row seats, and a power liftgate, will strike a solid balance between luxury and price. The SUV also includes an impressive suite of safety features. Standard adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and automated emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection will give family-minded drivers increased peace of mind.

After this many years of producing the Grand Cherokee, Jeep has nailed down the formula for a successful midsize to large SUV. Combining luxury, performance, capability, and now, practicality, Jeep has created a vehicle with universal appeal. For buyers desiring all the features of the old Grand Cherokee with more space, the Grand Cherokee L is the right choice.
