This year marks a special one for Dodge and Ram. Dodge was ranked number one and Ram was ranked number two among 32 brands examined in the annual J.D. Power APEAL Study for the second straight year among mass-market brands. This award marks the first time a domestic brand has received the No. 1 ranking for two consecutive years among mass-market brands, a huge feat for Dodge.
The study named the 2021 Ram 1500 to be the best vehicle in the large light-duty pickup category, the second straight year that the Ram 1500 has been at the top of that list. Furthermore, the Dodge Charger sedan, Dodge Durango SUV, Ram 2500/3500 heavy-duty pickup, and Jeep Gladiator pickup all placed second in their respective segments.
The APEAL study is conducted annually and ranks the emotion bond customers have with model-year 2021 vehicles. The study considers customer feedback during the first three months of ownership. Feedback collected is on vehicle attributes ranging anywhere from seating comfort to throttle response. This feedback is aggregated on an overall 1,000-point APEAL index, which provides the annual ranking and winners.
Dodge and Ram improved by 10 points this year from their performances in the 2020 study. The two received scores for 2021 that were just one point apart, exemplifying the strong bond customers have with the vehicles in both of these brands. Dodge and Ram scored an 882 and 881, respectively, showing their consistent performance above the industry average.
“We remain on a mission to do better for our customers," Mark Champine, Stellantis Head of Customer Experience, North America stated, going on to add, "we know we have more work to do.” With consistent rankings at the top of the charts and snagging the prime spot as the only domestic brand to perform first among mass-market brands two years in a row, it is time to look towards these brands to be the future of our automotive industry. These are the top picks that customers know and love, and these are the brands that we can expect to consistently deliver improved and top-of-the-line results with each and every year.
