There's a reason why midsize crossovers are popular with American families. They offer flexible seating options for adults and children, what is typically a cavernous cargo space for packing in pets, groceries, luggage and kids' athletic gears; a higher seating position for shorter drivers; and a more reliable ride in rough weather, particularly if they're outfitted with all-wheel drive.
The 2017 Dodge Journey is one such crossover that's also remarkably affordable vis-à-vis the competition, and also offers intelligent and flexible seating configurations that can accommodate any combination of passengers, pets and cargo
The Journey comes standard with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 173 horsepower and 166 pound-feet of torque, and gets respectable gas mileage (for its size) of 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. But if you plan to haul a lot of gear and/or tow a boat or trailer on a regular basis, you'll be comfortable with the bigger 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, which delivers 283 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Gas mileage suffers slightly but the tow rating with the V6 is up to 2,500 pounds.
The 2017 Dodge Journey is available in five trim levels, from the base SE, to the SXT, Crossroad, Crossroad Plus and GT. Standout features on the Journey involve its interior cabin flexibility. A third-row is available as an option, which means if you don't need that extra seating, you can leave it out and save room for gear. The second-row seats can stay connected, or recline separately. Also, The Journey features a Tilt n' Slide™ second row that can move forward or backward with a lever to allow one-handed access to back third row or back area. The front passenger seat can even fold flat to maximize cargo capacity.
If you have very young children along for the ride on a daily basis, the Journey is the only midsize crossover that offers built-in second-row child booster seats. These booster seats are integrated into the rear seat and can be conveniently tucked away when not in use.
The base Journey SE comes with roof rails for carrying cargo up top, keyless ignition, cruise control, dual-zone climate control (tri-zone is available), a 4.3-inch touchscreen and a six-speaker sound system. At the high-end (but still affordable), is the Journey GT, which is fairly loaded with everything from leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power driver's seat and heated steering wheel and a sport-tuned suspension. Other available options include a sunroof, the integrated second-row child seats, a rearview camera and rear parking sensors, navigation and a rear-seat entertainment system.
